Job Materials Review Session – new this year

A PDF of this call may be found here: 2023 Job Materials Workshop CFP

MATC is pleased to offer a new Job Materials Review workshop at the 2023 conference for advanced graduate students and recent PhDs, MFAs, and MAs. This workshop will offer participants the opportunity to meet in a closed session with faculty members and/or other professionals who have read their materials in advance and who will offer suggestions for improvement as well as strategies for job searches and job portfolio development.

If you are currently searching or are preparing to graduate and start a job search, please submit the proposal form found on the Job Materials Review CFP page on matc.us by 11:59pm PST on NOVEMBER 1, 2022. Questions may be directed to session coordinators Angela Ahlgren and Julie Burrell at article_session@matc.us.

The Proposal Form must include

  • your name
  • your institutional affiliation, if any
  • your title (identifying whether you are faculty, a student, or an independent scholar—all are invited to submit)
  • your contact information
  • a 250-word paragraph outlining the type of jobs for which you are applying (academic or non-academic, which subfield, i.e., Theatre History, Playwriting, Acting, Design, Tech, Non-profit Arts Administration, etc.); a brief description of your qualifications; and your job search timeline.

Session coordinators will select participants based on reader availability and time limitations of the conference itself. Priority will be given to participants entering the job market soonest (i.e., searching for jobs beginning in Fall 2023). Participants initially selected must submit a polished draft of their materials by January 31, 2023 and register for the conference for final approval for the session. The final materials portfolio should include: CV, Cover Letter, and either a one-page Diversity Statement or a one-page Teaching Philosophy. Please also include a sample job description that represents jobs for which you are applying

Further Conference Information

Please note that no individual may submit to more than two symposia, including this Job Materials session. This limit is put in place to avoid scheduling conflicts and to provide more individuals the opportunity to present.

The Mid-America Theatre Conference commits to advancing intersectional equity, inclusivity, and diversity; creating a conference that is welcoming and fully accessible; and to disrupting the ongoing damage of white supremacy within MATC and the broader academic and theatrical worlds. As part of this effort, we highly encourage a broad range of submissions by presenters or about theatre of historically disenfranchised and underrepresented populations, particularly those of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color communities. To request specific conference accommodations, please contact our Accessibility Officer at access@matc.us. MATC prohibits discrimination and harassment of any kind, including during all associated meetings, the annual conference sessions, and within publications. For MATC’s full statement on anti-racism, accessibility, and inclusivity please see our website at http://matc.us.
