This year on February 19th, 2022 MATC is hosting a virtual pre-conference focused on sessions for early career academics as well as moving our popular Playwriting Fringe Fest to a virtual format. Please join us Saturday February 19 beginning at 1:30pm central for sessions on topics such as publishing, mental health, and reimagining graduate education. We’ll conclude with a happy hour. All sessions are free and while we recommend you become a member of MATC (http://matc.us/membership-and-conference-registration) membership is not required to attend. More details below. How to Get Published

Facilitators: Beth Osborne, Florida State University and Shannon Walsh, Louisiana State University 

This session provides a workshop/discussion of how to navigate publishing as an early career scholar. What are some best practices early career scholars can follow at all levels of academic publishing?

3:00-4:15pm central: 

Surviving and Thriving in Academia as a BIPOC Scholar/Artist 

(a session for BIPOC early career scholars and mentors)

Facilitators: Les Gray, University of Missouri; Analola Santana, Dartmouth College; Brandon LaReau, University of Georgia

This session will focus on how BIPOC early career scholars/artists can navigate academia in ways that enable them to survive and thrive.

Supporting Mental Health in Academia

Facilitators: Shannon Walsh, Louisiana State University and Dori Leeman, Louisiana State University, MS Clinical Counseling Psychology, LPC

This session will focus on how we can collectively better support ourselves, our students, and our colleagues in the classroom, the rehearsal room, and the discipline.

Imagine Your Program

Facilitators: Shannon Walsh, Louisiana State University; Mackenzie Bounds, Dan Cullen

This session will provide a space where grad students can imagine what graduate programs in theatre could and should be as we step into the future.  Graduate program faculty will be invited to join at 5:45pm.
