The Playwriting Symposium of the Mid-America Theatre Conference seeks submissions of new unproduced one-act or full-length plays by playwrights who wish to further develop their work. Selected playwrights will meet in a closed session with a dramaturg who have read their play in advance and offer feedback and discuss the play.

If you have an unproduced one-act or full-length play and would like critical feedback from a dramaturg, please email a proposal document as an MS Word or PDF attachment by October 15, 2016 to Playwriting Co-Chairs Kristi Good (good@lycoming.edu) and Milbre Burch (milbre@kindcrone.com).

All proposals must include:

  • A ten-page sample from the play. Please do not send the entire play. One play per playwright only. Playwrights may submit to both the Dramatists Play Lab and Plays in Progress.
  • A one-page plot synopsis.
  • A one-page statement identifying your goals for your session.
  • Your name and academic affiliation (if any).
  • Your contact information.

We will select proposals based on the overall clarity of the project and time limitations of the conference itself. Selected playwrights must submit a full version of their plays by January 31, 2017 and register for the conference for final approval for the session. There is no funding from the conference for travel or lodging costs.

Please direct any questions to Kristi at good@lycoming.edu.

Acceptance will be acknowledged by December 2016 or earlier.
