Drawn from work presented at the Practice/Production, Pedagogy, and Playwriting Symposium of the Mid America Theatre Conference, Theatre/Practice is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal created to encourage, recognize, and disseminate rigorous, high-quality scholarship in embodied practice and practice as research in theatre and performance.

Theatre/Practice seeks to publish essays, documentation, dialogues, accounts, and manifestos based on significant firsthand practitioner experiences of acting, directing, design, dramaturgy, playwriting, devising, or another practitioner’s work in those fields.

Submissions to Theatre/Practice are limited to work presented at the Mid America Theatre Conference. All Practice/Production, Playwriting, and Pedagogy symposium participants are invited to submit publication-ready versions of their papers or plays by July 1 of the conference year. These submissions will then undergo a blind peer review by at least one reader and editor. Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the most recent edition of the Chicago Manual of Style. Manuscripts can be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word or plain-text formats to the editor at thr.practice.editor@matc.us. All submissions must be accompanied by a note to the editor that includes the title of the work, the author’s name(s), positions, and institutional affiliations. The work should not be under consideration or in print elsewhere. If your manuscript is accepted for publication, it will appear in a PDF format that is available for reading online, downloading, and printing.

We encourage submissions of photographs and videos to complement manuscript submissions. Make sure to include appropriate permissions and credits for any media.
